ANNOUNCEMENT March 10, 2008
MAGNIFICAT HIGH SCHOOL NAMES '84 ALUMNA, MARY LOU SCHLOSSER TOLER, NEW DIRECTOR OF ADVANCEMENT
After a four-month search, an alumna with a rich background in Catholic education and ministry from the classroom to the board room as well as appreciable expertise in developing and stewarding funding partnerships has been chosen as Magnificat High School's new Director of Advancement.
Reporting to President, Sister Carol Anne Smith, H.M., Mary Lou Schlosser Toler '84 joins a small but accomplished Institutional Advancement team on May 5. She is leaving a key role at the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Foundation where she had developed funding and marketing initiatives for Catholic schools and their leaders throughout greater Cleveland.
"Mary Lou is an enthusiastic mission-oriented leader who has contributed tremendously in every role she's undertaken," said Mr. Brian Hurtuk, Search Committee Chairman. "Her spirituality, work style and impressive results make me excited about the imprint she will make on Magnificat's advancement efforts as we anticipate celebrating the 50th anniversary graduating class next year."
As a senior staff member of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Foundation, Mary Lou has supported major development and fundraising projects for Catholic Charities, inner city Catholic schools, and various outreach ministries of the Diocese of Cleveland. Additionally, she has coordinated the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland's planned giving marketing campaign; teamed with chairpersons of the Alleluia Gala for inner city Catholic schools' scholarships; and sought, received and administered major grants for Catholic education.
"Daily I witness tremendous love and gratitude for Magnificat along with deep appreciation for its singular mission", said Sr. Carol Anne Smith. "Our work in development is to invite hearts committed to our mission to provide support and then steward those relationships with spirit. Mary Lou has the qualities this demands - a great listener, clear communicator, a solid planner, and a partnership-builder with a collegial style."
With a Master's degree in Education Administration from Ursuline College and undergraduate degree from John Carroll University, Mary Lou has been a classroom teacher, Senior Staff Member of the Diocese of Cleveland Office of Catholic Education and Secretariat for Education, and School Advisory Council President. She and her husband Bill are members of St. Raphael Parish, Bay Village.
In thanking the volunteer leaders who formed the search committee including: Mr. Brian Hurtuk, Vice President, CB Richard Ellis; Magnificat High School Board of Directors and Advancement Committee Chair; Mr. Jeff Leitch, President, Cook-Leitch & Associates; Chairman, Magnificat High School Board of Directors; Mrs. Terry Holthaus, Sr. Director Corp. and Foundation Relations, Cleveland Clinic Foundation; Magnificat High School Advancement Committee member; Ms. Michelle Ryan Stewart '85, Director of Development, Playhouse Square Foundation; Mr. P.
