New Courses for the 2020-2021 School Year:
Web Design
This project-based course teaches students web page design and coding. Students learn HTML and CSS, and will design and code their own websites to display their projects. Students will finish this course with relevant, professional, mobile-ready websites.

Intermediate Algebra
Students review and deepen their understanding of concepts learned in Algebra 1. Problem-solving skills are improved and confidence in math ability is developed. Students increase their understanding of functions and the elements of graphing and become proficient in the use of graphing calculators. This course sets up students for success in Algebra 2.

Advanced Acting
In this course, students will continue to grow as performers through a continued study of acting. Students will be introduced to several different acting techniques, including Stanislavski and Chekov. Students will sharpen their skills through improvisation, scene work, and character analysis and will be taught practical exercises to improve vocal quality. The course work will culminate with a one-act play performed at the end of the semester. Daily participation, creativity, and memorization are required for this course.

Science Foundations
Students review and strengthen their mastery of basic science concepts and skills needed for successful pursuit of science topics while engaging in scientific inquiry. The course will develop students’ proficiency with use of the Scientific Method, the metric system, units and dimensional analysis, and databases. Students will practice graphing, note-taking, lab safety and procedures, experimental design and scientific problem-solving. This course sets up students for success in Biology and other future STEM courses.

AP Art & Design
AP Art and Design is a year-long course for the highly motivated student who seeks a rigorous and focused study of art. The core of the course consists of intensive, guided exploration of media, demonstrations, reference gathering, inspirational lectures and presentations, group or individual critiques, reflections, and frequent sketch booking. Students are expected to work more independently: mastering their media and engaging deeply with the themes and content of their concentration and preparing for the annual spring Art Show. In building the portfolio, students experience a variety of concepts, techniques, and approaches designed to help them demonstrate their technical skill, problem solving, and conceptualization. This course is focused on the creation of a portfolio that is successful in both aspects of development: selected works and sustained investigation – as outlined by the College Board; and provides perfect opportunity for growth in skill and discovery of personal interests in art making, and is a springboard for acceptance at an art school.

AP 2D Art & Design: Photography
This is a year-long course and is designed for students who are seriously interested in art-making with a focus on photography and promotes the sustained investigation of portfolio development. The core of the course consists of intensive, guided exploration of photography, demonstrations, reference gathering, inspirational lectures and presentations, shooting assignments, group or individual critiques, reflections, and frequent sketch booking. Students are expected to work more independently: mastering their media and engaging deeply with the themes and content of their concentration. In building the portfolio, students experience a variety of concepts, techniques and approaches designed to help them demonstrate their technical skill, problem solving,a and conceptualization. The AP Studio Art experience is centered on the creation of a portfolio that is successful in both development: selected works and sustained investigation as outlined by the College Board; and provides perfect opportunity for growth in skill and discovery of personal interests in art making, and is a springboard for acceptance at an art school.
