Campus Ministry - Service

Through participation in the Campus Ministry service programs, Magnificat students answer the call to live Mary’s Magnificat in the world. Students are encouraged to participate in a variety of service opportunities. An important component of these programs includes ongoing prayer and reflection that invites the students to connect their service experience with their faith in ever-deeper ways. By extending themselves in humility, compassion, and love, students directly experience the profound truth that in giving we receive. “The service programs at Magnificat have taught me that it is important throughout my life to be grateful for what God gives me, and to share this feeling with others by making a life-long commitment to service as a Christian.”

Weekly Programs

In the weekly service programs, students commit themselves to participate in service after school one day each week, either for a semester or for the entire school year. These weekly service programs include tutoring at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Rocco grade schools and a ministry of companionship at Eliza Jennings Nursing Home.

Tutoring Programs

A tutoring pair works diligently on homework after school.

Students from all grade levels participate in the after-school tutoring programs each week. Participants in these programs are paired in a one-on-one relationship with a student from Our Lady of Mount Carmel or St. Rocco. As tutors, the Magnificat students assist the child with his or her school work and serve as a positive role model through their friendship and leadership.

"As I reflect on my experience as a tutor, one thing that I think is important for you to know is that I truly loved my four years as a tutor. I've learned a lot from each student I worked with such as compassion, perseverance, and patience. I am so glad that I have gone through this program and it is one of the highlights of my high school experience"

Ministry of Companionship

Friendships develop between students and residents

Each week over 20 students spend an afternoon at Eliza Jennings  Nursing Home, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center located in Cleveland, Ohio. Students spend time visiting with residents and participating in activities. The purpose of this program is to build a relationship of care and compassion between the resident and the student.
