Health and Physical Education

The Health and Physical Education program at Magnificat High school strives to promote the wellness approach to holistic health, which stresses the need for balance in one’s life. The program philosophy emphasizes the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual development of well-rounded young women and the importance of lifetime fitness. Students are prepared to make responsible decisions, appropriate value judgments, and act in ways which contribute to good personal health. 
  • Lifetime Fitness

    This course will help the student understand the importance of committing to a lifetime of physical activity by studying both team and lifetime sports. An emphasis on Christian values and good sportsmanship will occur during this class. The units may include archery, badminton, dance, table tennis, self-defense, yoga, and zumba, as well as a bowling field trip. Certified instructors bring their expertise to this course to provide the most beneficial experience of self-defense, yoga, and zumba.

  • Personal Wellness and Healthy Living

    Freshmen study first aid and the personal, social, and community dimensions of health. The health curriculum strives to encourage the emotional, physical, social, intellectual, and spiritual growth of each student. The Health course focuses on the improvement of decision-making and problem-solving skills and their relationship with healthful living. Units presented to the students may include CPR, Wellness, Alcohol, Tobacco, Drugs, Nutrition, and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
  • Lifetime Fitness 2

    This course will help the student understand the importance of committing to a lifetime of physical activity by studying both team and lifetime sports. An emphasis on Christian values and good sportsmanship will occur during this class. The units may include archery, badminton, dance, table tennis, self-defense, yoga, and Zumba, as well as a bowling field trip. To provide the most beneficial experience of self-defense, yoga, and Zumba certified instructors will bring their expertise to this course.

  • Strength, Fitness, and Wellness

    This course is designed for students who wish to improve or maintain their physical fitness. The course will be designed to help students at different levels of physical fitness. In this course students will learn the proper way to perform strength exercises and aerobic exercises to optimize physical fitness. Strength training, aerobic exercises, and mental health and wellness will be the main areas of focus. In our strength training we will use free weights, medicine balls, body weight exercises, and resistance training. Our aerobic exercise section will include jogging, jump rope, yoga, circuit training, and flexibility. The final piece of this course will be physical wellness where students will learn the importance of nutrition, sleeping habits, and stress management techniques.
