Prerequisite: none

Scriptural Foundations: Students will gain a general knowledge and appreciation of the Sacred Scriptures. Through their study of the Bible, they will encounter the living Word of God, Jesus Christ.

Christology: Students will be introduced to the mystery of Jesus Christ, the living word of God, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. Students will deepen their understanding that Jesus Christ is the ultimate revelation of God and in learning about who he is, they will also learn who he calls them to be. In addition, students will reflect on the charism of our founding order, the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, as well on the implications of the mission statement of our school and Mary as our model. 

Paschal Mystery: Students will be immersed in scripture scholarship in order to gain understanding of all God has done for us through Jesus Christ. Students will learn that they share in God’s redemption in and through Jesus Christ. They will be introduced to what it means to be a disciple of Christ and what life as a disciple entails. The 10th grade course also emphasizes Care for Creation throughout the year in response to Pope Francis’ Laudato Si.

Ecclesiology: Students will deepen their understanding of how they encounter the living Jesus Christ through the Church and will come to know that the Church is the living Body of Christ today. Students will deepen their understanding that it is only through Christ that they can fully live out God’s plan for their lives. Students will learn the moral concepts and precepts that govern the lives of Christ’s disciples.

Students will be introduced to the Church’s social teaching and will learn how Christ’s concern for others, especially the poor, is present today in the Church’s social teaching and mission.

Students will deepen their understanding of how they can encounter Christ today in a full and real way and through the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Building on Catholic Social Teaching, this course emphasizes the transformative power and social implications of each sacrament.

Students will deepen their understanding of the manner in which the Catholic Church relates to non-Catholic Christians as well as to other religions of the world.
