  • Counseling

The Counseling Department serves students in three primary areas that are rooted in the American School Counseling Association’s (ASCA) model: academic, personal/social, and college/career. Students can meet with their school counselor anytime throughout the school day and during Compass Class.

    What is Compass Class?
Compass class is a unique opportunity for Magnificat school counselors to work with students within a classroom setting. Counselors utilize this time to help students navigate their high school experience within three domains: academic, personal/social, and college/career.
    • Compass class takes place once every 7-day rotation with the same cohort of students from the same grade level.
    • Freshman Compass Class will focus on the transition to high school, executive functioning skills, self-advocacy, healthy relationships, positive coping strategies, and standard test preparation.
    FAQs:

Does my student need a computer?
Students are permitted, but not required, to bring their own laptops, tablets, and similar devices for use at school. Students also have the opportunity to borrow a Chromebook to use during the 2026-2027 school year once school has started—more information to come in the fall!

Is there a school supply list?
While there is not an official school supply list, students’ teachers will inform them of what they need on the first day of school in each class. For the first day of school, it is suggested that students bring a folder and/or notebook, something to write with, and their device.

What should my student bring to Freshman Orientation?
Students can dress in comfortable clothes and can bring their phone if desired, but will be required to turn their phone into their assigned bin. Lunch will be provided.

WHERE/HOW DO I FIND SCHOOL RELATED INFORMATION?

    myMHS (Blackbaud)
The “Resources” tab houses folders with a variety of different information including announcements, Student Handbook, Curriculum Guide, forms, and the lunch menu!

    Magnificat Email
Parents will receive an email on March 4 with instructions on how to set up a student email account and establish access to myMHS. Students should get in the habit of checking and responding to emails using their Magnificat email address.

  • Beekeeping Class

Seeds of Service Horticulture Club is partnering with Youth Bee Works for its annual Beekeeping course. This 8-week course is open to all Magnificat students, including the incoming Class of 2030. Students learn basic honey bee biology, beekeeping techniques, equipment needs, best management practices, bee diseases and so much more. They will work up close with this extraordinary little insect that has such an enormous impact on our food system and environment. Students will maintain and care for the four hives we have on our campus, which includes extracting and preserving honey and pollen. The Bee Committee falls under the Seeds of Service Horticulture Club, so students are considered members of the club which requires them to attend the Seeds of Service monthly meetings during the school year.

The first 4 classes will be held March 4, 11, 18, and 25, after school from 3:20-4 p.m. The remaining 4 classes will resume in the fall. For more information and dates, please contact Mrs. Karen Tigue, Horticulture Manager, ktigue@maghs.org or 440-331-1572, ext. 260.
